I was at the unplugged show in Portland, ME in 1997 (one of his boots for
sale). I got there about 1/2 hour early, and noone was there, so I
got to get front and center! There were a bunch of other bands
playing that day (Suzanna Hoffs, Jamie Walters, and a couple others I
didn't know). The stage was set up in the middle of an intersection
(with street light above, and everything!), as this was the main
entertainment for a yearly shindig called the Old Port Festival.
Anyway, I was able to get behind the stage before things began and
saw all the guys back there (except for Fitz, who was not in
attendence). I yelled over to Jack that he was the man, and he
pointed back to me, then I asked Jeff, "Where's Gary Moon?", to which
he responded, "Gary Moon doesn't work here anymore". LOL! Then,
Kelly came over and talked to me, my fiance, and another guy that was
there for about 20 minutes. He was very cool, and I was awestruck,
as you can imagine.
So, the show starts, and they only played about 6 or 7 songs, but it
was really cool, hearing the unplugged thing. The last song was
DTMYLM, which they explained they had never done acoustically
before. Anyway, Jack gets done his schpeel, and I think they are
ready to begin, but there's Brad, sitting with his hands in position
on his six string, but he's looking up to the sky, and isn't playing
anything. This goes on for about 20 seconds or so, then he says, "I
had to wait for the light to turn green!" and begins playing. I know
most of their lines are scripted and they say them every night at
every show, but this one had to be adlib, and I thought it was very
funny!
